Beautiful People for Writers #17 – May Edition

Another Beautiful People Meme from Cait @ Paper Fury! This time we’re getting to know our characters more.

Today, I’ll talk about my boys from Corvus Academy, a school that trains would-be Sentinels, agents who fight demons. Sentinels work in teams of threes: a Cleric, a Warrior, and a Ranger. So here are:

Noel – Cleric from the Philippines

Garrick – Warrior from England

Kai – Ranger from Iceland

1. How often do they smile? Would they smile at a stranger?

They smile enough, although one of my characters, Garrick is a sourpuss and he’ll often glare people into submission. In my Corvus Academy draft, Garrick pretty much hates the main protagonist, Noel. Which means that it’s gonna be difficult for them to work together. Their third teammate, Kai, is a nice guy, except his smile is more I’m-going-to-spy-on-you-and-learn-all-your-secrets than a friendly one.

2. What is the cruelest thing they’ve ever been told? And what was their reaction?

Noel is from the wait list, and having been admitted into a prestigious school like Corvus, he tries hard to be prove that he’s worthy. He’s been insulted because he’s a shaman, of course, and although he wants to retaliate, he can’t. Because he’s hiding something.

Garrick’s been insulted by other guys in school for having Noel on his team, and he practically mauled them.

Kai has been teased for being an albino and being very tall and wiry. He didn’t deign to respond, though, because applied to Corvus and passed with flying colors.

3. What is the kindest thing they’ve ever been told? And what was their reaction?

Noel’s mother was his closest friend. She told him how proud she was of his hobbies and achievements in school, and he was really happy about it.

Garrick’s boyfriend once complimented him for being smart in math. They kissed.

A childhood friend nearly drowned in a frozen lake, and Kai saved her life. She gave him a flower, and he kept fit for years pressed between the pages of his Cunning and Stealth 101 book.

4. What is one strong memory that has stuck with your character from childhood? Why is it so powerful and lasting?

Garrick’s mother died when he was young, and his father tried to resurrect her. That is one thing he’ll never forget.

5. What book (a real actual published book!) do you think your character would benefit from reading?

Noel – The Count of Monte Cristo

Garrick – Anger Management for Dummies

Kai – Percy Jackson Series

6. Have they ever been seriously injured? How severely? How did they react?

Corvus Academy is no place for onion-skinned babies. So yeah, the boys’re gonna get injured a lot.

7. Do they like and get along with their neighbours?

If by neighbors, you mean classmates, then mostly yeah. Although as teammates, Noel, Garrick, and Kai have to learn to trust each other.

8. On a scale from 1 to 10 (1 being easy and 10 being difficult) how easy are they to get along with?

Noel – 4 (if not for the secrets, it’d be a 3)

Garrick – 7 on a good day

Kai – 5 (but you won’t know if that’s real or not)

9. If they could travel anywhere in the world, where would they go?

If Noel didn’t have his secret mission, he would probably be travelling around Europe visiting historical landmarks.

Garrick would be with his boyfriend.

Kai would be travelling along Northern America.

10. Who was the last person they held hands with?

Noel – brother and sisters

Garrick – his boyfriend

Kai – his sisters

Well, that’s it. Whew, I learned some things about my characters! Can’t wait for next time.
